I will admit, I am a bit of a novice when it comes to glass. Mainly because I never really had anyone to collect/compete with. Now, having found grasscity.com and all the glass lovers there, I am slowly but surely becoming more and more familiar with pieces like this PH(X) German Style Diffused Downstem.

Make/Model: PH(X) German Style Diffused Downstem
Joint Size: 18.8mm to 18.8mm
Craftsmanship Rating: C
Functionality Rating: B+
Comments: The German (or .de) style diffuser as it’s often referred to is one of the most common types of diffused downstems on the market today. It is quite effective at diffusing the smoke into smaller bubbles, thus cooling the smoke. One of the downsides to this type of diffuser is that it is more prone to clogging when ash pulls through.
The other downside is with this particular diffuser is that the holes are not very precisely placed, and are not equally sized. As far as I can tell, this is only an aesthetic problem, not a functional one. –trikky
Great explanation of the cooling effect smaller bubbles have. The 2nd pic is a great visual as well. Good stuff! –Chubbs

Nice review.
I’m learning about glass also.
So I learned something new.
Keep’em coming.
Is the bottom open?
I believe it is but am not 100% sure.
The bottom isn’t sealed, it’s hole is the same size as all the others.
I’d lower that rating alot because the diffuser doesn’t utilize all its holes because they are too far apart from each other AND the bottom hole. fyi, this isn’t german style. german style (.de roor) has a cluster of holes at the bottom of the diffy, these holes are way to spread out to think of it as that. besides .de doesn’t use a 16+1 hole set either
jboo, the holes will all be occupied when you inhale stronger. the weaker you inhale, the less holes needed to provide the cooling, this picture does no justice for the holes, they arent as far apart as this makes them look, you just have to have one to understand its a great downstem especially for their price…
