From what I have read, in Columbia, S. Carolina investigators built a case and have now made 8 arrests stemming from the picture of Michael Phelps smoking marijuana via a very nice RooR bong. Of the 8 people arrested, 7 have been charged with drug possession and 1 for distribution. And sadly the bong is now in police custody as well.
Phelps was at a party when a fellow party goer supposedly handed him a packed bong and a lighter. Phelps wasted no time and right before he lit up, the famous picture was snapped and the rest is history.
In Richland county, the Sheriff’s Department has been getting a lot of crap from people not only here in The States but from around the world. Everyone wants to know why they are so determined to go after Phelps.
The feeling of most people is that the sheriff should devote his time and resources to other, more serious crimes rather than focus so hard on busting Michael Phelps. I mean, if you are hell bent on busting someone, there were a bunch of other people at the party.
I am in NO WAY condoning the actions of the sheriff but fair is fair. Just because Phelps is rich and famous does not mean he should be singled out.
Sources say that prior to the arrests the owner of the now confiscated RooR was trying to sell it for $100,000 on Ebay. It’s not certain if he is the same person that also took the picture of Phelps hitting the bong. What has been confirmed is he was not at the party but is 1 of the 8 people that has been arrested.

i can’t believe people actually care that much. If smoking pot is so bad for your health, how can people not recognize that tobacco and alcohol are WORSE for us? It blows my mind how people with habits and problems of their own can hate on phelps for smoking pot.
I cannot believe that this is happening and cannot wrap my mind around the justifications for doing this that the police must be using.
