Who knew there were so many different types of downstems available. Well, maybe you all knew but I did not. Take a look at this Illadelph from trikky’s personal collection.

Make/Model: Illadelph “Slit” Style Bushing Diffused Downstem
Joint Size: 18.8mm to 14.4mm
Craftmanship Rating: A
Functionality Rating: B-
Comments: The Illadelph style Bushing Downstem is a very decent downstem. Every Illadelph tube now comes standard with them, which is a credit to Illadelph. The design is functional, but does not diffuse the smoke quite as well as the German style diffuser. Aesthetically, the low profile look of a bushing diffuser is typically preferred by glass enthusiasts.
Also, most custom made bowls made by actual artists are made with 14.4mm joints, so a bushing is more compatible. –trikky
I can definitely see a difference when comparing the milk shots. This whole time I am using a slit style on my daily hitter thinking it was better. Time to go to the head shop! –Chubbs

What exactly are you referring to when you say “bushing” ?
Even though you say it doesn’t diffuse as good as the other one, I like the look of the slits better than holes for some reason.
Nice piece, nice review.
I will get you a better picture of a bushing. They are much better visually understood than explained. I agree that between these two types of diffusers, the slits are most aesthetically appealing. A nicely made German Style diffuser can be a pleasure to look at AND smoke from. Look for a handmade German style diffuser in a future review.
i think he’s reffering to the joint of the stem..
