Well the story behind why I did not get any good interior pictures of Homegrown Fantasy goes like this.
My wife and I were partying all day and had just left the Heineken Brewery where we enjoyed “The Heineken Experience“. We hopped on a train and were on our way back to our “neighborhood” when I spotted Homegrown Fantasy out the window. Unfortunately the train does not make any unscheduled stops and we passed it right up. The good thing was the next stop was just a little ways away and we got off the train.
It only took a few minutes to walk back up the street but by the time we got to Homegrown Fantasy, I was beat! It had been a long day which felt even longer thanks to the good people at Heineken.

It was dark out and the only part of the Homegrown Fantasy storefront that looked good was the sign/logo above the door. I snapped a quick picture and went inside to grab a couple grams of their Cannabis Cup entry, Hindu Kush (Review coming later today).
The inside of Homegrown Fantasy is nice. A medium size building with some couches, chairs and tables that run down the left wall and some bar seating in the back. I am guessing there is enough seating for about 25-35 people comfortably. To the right is the bar area which the bud tender site behind. They not only sell weed and hash but also sell a bunch of other stuff. Almost like a mini headshop.
The selection of bud and hash is great. I can’t lie, I don’t remember the exact strains but I do remember that I that I was BUMMED that I only had enough money on me to buy a couple grams of Hindu Kush.
As I said it was night time plus we were there in the dead of winter so there was nobody sitting outside. You can get a really good idea from the picture below just how incredibly cold it was. Maybe the coldest weather I have ever felt.
We hung out for about 20 minutes. It was a nice break to just sit and chill. I ended up smoking at least 2 or 3 grams of bud and a gram or 2 of hash. I had planned on taking some really cool pictures for this review but to be honest, I was RIPPED and I completely forgot. Homegrown Fantasy is 1 of a few shops where I had this happen.
I really liked Homegrown Fantasy and will definitely be paying them a visit sometime when the weather is a little nicer. That is if they are still open.
One of the rumors going around at the 2008 Cannabis Cup was that there was a handful of coffee shops that were being forced to close their doors permanently because of new zoning laws. People were saying Homegrown Fantasy was/is too close to a school. Which according to the new laws is grounds for closure.
As of today (January 28, 2009) I have not heard anything about the actual closing of any coffee shops. But if you do a little research online, it looks like the rumors may have a little truth to them. I guess it’s just a matter of time before we see which shops make the cut. –Chubbs

nice coffeeshop review chubbs, I also have heard that they might be closing due to the new law. That will be a terrible day if it does happen. This place always stocks good bud and has the best space cake in town as far as taste and potency go. It has been around for many years and even took home the cup in 91 for their skunk #1/haze cross. Hey chubbs, did you check out the bathroom in this place? They have several blacklights in there that makes your piss appear to be fluorescent white. Bugged me out in the extremely high state I was in. Peace
meangreenmartian: No I did not use the bathroom and am bummed. Sounds like it’s pretty cool actually. For a bathroom that is.
The person who owns the building that HGF is located in doesn’t want it to be a coffeeshop anymore which is why it’s closing. June 2009 is when it’s due to close, a lot of people (me included) are hoping they can find a new location but because of the way the City issues the licenses that looks highly unlikely.
JB: Wow, that sucks. Well lets hope they can set up somewhere else. Hopefully relatively close to where they are now. I guess it pays to own the building.
I read on ACD forum the lease is extended one more year until 2010 so it may be the last Cup for HGF.
Amazing place! I was there one year ago, and I MUST come back, I like the warm feeling, it’s like sitting in a nice house and smoke some of the finest herbs.
Can’t wait for my next visit!
I was in HGF on the first of february 2010 and it was very much still open and selling its lovely unusual weed. I’ve heard for years it’s closing. I always wonder whether it’s true or one of those bull rumours. All I know is I go back a few times a year and it’s always still there, just over the road from the police station!!
homegrown’s lease has been extended for at least another year, yay! so no worries, still going strong!
Enjoy, one of the Top 10 coffeeshop
My favorite chill coffeeshop in Amsterdam. Great vibe and people. Oh, yeah, and weed.
