I have a glass pipe that was given to me as a gift by Apothecary420 on my first visit. Since getting it, the only thing that has been smoked through it is killer weed and high grade hash. I noticed the other day that there was a puddle of resin/melted hash that had accumulated at the bottom of the pipe and was determined to "harvest" it without damaging or discoloring my pipe. Check out this ingenious technique I came up with.
- Step 1 – Get Your Tools Together
All you will need is a small pot, an oven mitten, stove, pipe, container.
- Step 2 – Boil Water / Add Pipe
This is actually the hardest step and even it is simple. All you have to do is fill up the pot with water and bring it to a boil. Once the water is boiling, use the oven mitten to protect your hand and place the bottom of the pipe into the boiling water. Be CAREFUL not to dunk to deep or drop your pipe in the water. You do not want any water to get into the bowl or carb. All you are trying to do is use the boiling water to heat up the puddle of resin that is inside the pipe. We are not trying to clean the bowl.
- Step 3 – Pour The Heated Resin Into a Container
After holding the pipe in the water for 15-20 seconds, tilt the pipe to the side using the carb. as a pouring spout. The hot resin will pour right out into whatever you are using for a container. In my case I used a little container that some honey oil that I bought came in. You could even pour it directly onto a packed bowl. You have to move quickly as the resin cools off rather fast and will thicken up and stop pouring. If necessary, repeat processes 2 and 3 until the pipe is completely empty.
- Step 4 – All Done
Once my pipe is clean and I have all the resin, I pretty much use and treat it the same way I do honey oil. Just add a little bit to a bowl here and there and it lasts a while. And man is it stoney. Oh and by the way, the reason I don’t just use a lighter to heat up the resin is that it blackens the bowl and makes it look like crap. –Chubbs

When smoking this stuff does it taste nasty? Or can you barely taste it?
Unfortunately it’s all you taste, even when just a small amount is added to a bowl of sticky.
But it’s worth it. It’s not exactly as good as honey oil bud very close.

What happens if you were to cover the bottem of the bowl with tin foil then heat it with a lighter?

i did exactlly wat was said but nothin comes out how much tree do u need to smoke to harvest the resin????/
@jonathan: Enough so that you are able to see a little puddle of resin in the bottom of the pipe/spoon.
i just fisihed a 2 gram pack is thaqt good enough

Nice technic but i doubt that your oil is really potent, because most part of the thc is already gone and the oil that you get may contain a little bit of unburn thc but you can’t call it resin..the resin is in and on the resin gland, wich is stick to the vegetal part of the bud.. when you smoke through your bowl, you may have little unburn thc who stick to the bottom of your pipe, but with the heat there is a lot of residue, like oils, who also fall at the bottom.. that is kind of nasty , it’s like rolling a joint with hashes on it..

sooo i gathhered up all the resin into a 1 inch ball (bigger than a marbel)
i just take a really little piece out and mix it with some good bud and its really potent
what else can i do with that ball i made from the pipe residue?????

i want to try cooking with resin. but need to do more self educating. i would imagin resin would be ideal for this purpose. embrace patients.

Resin is a good source of smoke for when you cant find any. The main problem is most people do not use screens in their pipes. This will cause ash and chunks of roasted plant matter to be pulled into the pipe. This turns the resin into gross burnt chunky mess. Which makes it harder to remove, usually you end up scraping it out, and tossing it, because its not very good at all. If you use a steel screen, it will prevent most of the ash from going into the pipe. You will end up with thick blackish brown oil, similar to ‘hash oil’ in consistency. put some on a pin or something and spread it on a rolling paper. it makes it easier to deal with. or collect it in a jar. when im down to the end of my bag, and i cant get more for whatever reason, i put the nice clean resin on a paper and if i have no filler i fold it up, or roll it up, and cut it into 1/8 inch pieces and put it in a bowl. a bong is best cuz the resin can be a little harsh. you can also soak your pipe in 99% methyl alcohol over night, then take it out and pour out all the alcohol into another container. all the resin will come with it. let the alcohol Evaporate, out side is best. you can use a fan or hair dryer to make it evaporate faster. when its all gone, you will have oil-like resin. peace,
isnt resin full of carcinogens and all the bad chemicals that are from the smoke, i think melted hash and weed resin are two different things

ahhh back in the day when we couldnt find any bud my friends and i would scrape the resin from the bong, put it on some ash and get baked like crazy. the taste was horrible tho, make sure to have some pop available!!
Very very true! Pipe Resin and Hash/hash oil are two very different things. Hash is made through a process using butane to chemically extract thc from plant material. Pipe resin is basically the carcinogenic leftover with very little thc content.
