While planning my trip up to San Francisco to see Cypress Hill on 4/20 I obviously needed to figure out which dispensaries to hit up. I narrowed the list down to 3, Harborside which is in Oakland and 2 others that were in SF. Since I was flying into Oakland I decided to hit Harborside 1st and boy am I glad I did.
I flew in on 4/19 in anticipation of the holiday. I wanted to “stock up” the day before so I was ready to go bright and early on 4/20. My buddy picked me up from the airport in Oakland and we drove straight to Harborside Health Center. We had a bit of a hard time finding the place but that’s normal for my friend, he struggles a bit behind the wheel.
We arrived at Harborside which is pretty much right on the water about 20 minutes before they opened and to no surprise there was already about 30-40 people in line waiting to get in.
Fortunately they have a HUGE parking lot an we were able to roll right in and grab a spot. My buddy does not have a medical marijuana recommendation so he had to wait in the car which they were cool with.
I hopped out and went and got in line. 1 of the 3 security guards working the parking lot/line noticed I was holding my recommendation and asked if I was a 1st time patient. I said yes and was immediately escorted to the front of the line and within minutes was inside the lobby waiting to be admitted. The lobby was nothing special, just an area of the main building, which is huge by the way, kind of sectioned off. There is a door to the admitting office here as well.
As I was sitting in the lobby one of the girls that works there approached me and asked if she could give me the tour. This place is by far the biggest, most well organized and professional medical marijuana dispensary I have been to so far. The offer all kinds of massage and therapeutic classes and even have a room for grow seminars.
The clone area alone is as big as some entire dispensaries here in SoCal and reminded me of the garden department at Home Depot. This place was stocked!
After my tour I was escorted to the admitting office and verified in minutes. The entire process was pretty quick and painless.
Don’t let the above picture fool you, this place is busy all day every day. While they do have different stations to help customers, each station has the same marijuana, concentrates and edibles available. And as you would imagine, the selection is top notch. Not only do they have a ton of bud to choose from, but they actually send a sample of each strain they sell out to be scientifically tested so they can provide customers the actual thc level. Also the top shelf offerings come in cool glass jars which I really liked.
I’d say in total Harborside Health Center had 25+ strains to choose from with 5 of those being top shelf (True Blueberry x OG Kush, Chemdawg D, Chemdawg 4, Casey Jones and Purple Push) which went for $60/8th. I ordered up an 1/8th of each of the 5 best strains and was told by the lady helping me that I was limited to 4. I got 4 and a bunch of hash and oil (Afgooey Super Melt, Purple Diesel Pixie Stick, Maui Wowee Honey Bud, Blueberry Oil and Purps Oil) and since I spent so much money I was given a free gram of my choice which I used to get some of the 5th top shelf bud. So in the end it worked out. Reviews of everything are on the way fyi.
One big difference about Harborside is they allow 2 visits per day, which at first was not a big deal until I got back to my hotel room and realized they forgot to include my oil. Since they also did not charge me for it I was not mad, just bummed that I had no oil. But since I was allowed a second trip, we decided to go back. And since we were heading back we thought we might as well get some more $ from the atm, which we did. As you can see in the picture, there was no shortage of “smokeables”.
All in all I an can honestly say that on more than one occasion I thought to myself “okay, how can I afford to move up here from OC in order to be close enough to shop here daily”? that’s how good a business they are running. And in case you are wondering, we never even went to the other 2 dispensaries on my list. It just was not necessary.
I paid cash both times I went to Harborside and forgot to ask if they take credit cards. I am hoping they do as that would pretty much make them the perfect collective.
Take note dispensary owners, this is how it’s done. –Chubbs

sometimes I get a little druel going when I see pics of beautiful bud… apparently reading about an amazing dispensary does the trick too.
cheers
@hooooon: Me too

Don’t forget that we also offer a variety of free holistic health services to all of our patients, including: Chiropractic, Yoga, Acupuncture, and more. We also encourage all of our patients to be active in the medical marijuana movement by supplementing them with one free gram of medicine per week to do so. On top of all of that, we have a carepackage program for people on disability or with financial hardship.
Oh yeah… We also accept credit cards!
Hope to have you back sometime soon, Chubbs!

@Harborside Health Center: I make up to NorCal 2 or 3 times a year. Will be heading back up in a couple months for a bachelor party. You can bet I’ll be coming by for some more meds.
Looks like a great place, the best I’ve seen reviewed so far
Actually, I think they have closer to 50 strains to choose from. All the way across the board from $20 an 1/8 to $60 an 1/8. And they also have the ABSOLUTE STRONGEST THC Concentrate in the entire Medical Cannabis Dispensary Market. It’s called E.T.D. (Ether THC Distillate). It is made through a vacuum distillation process and it tested at 98% THC. Chubbs, If you didn’t pick any up last time you were there it may even be worth a trip back up here just to get some of this stuff. I kid you not.
@HHC Fan: Trust me, that’s the first thing I asked for. The girl that was helping me (I forget her name but she was a cool, sexy redhead) actually ran all over the shop seeing if there was any available anywhere. No luck.
I will definitely be getting some my next time up.
98% THC is holy grail levels!!
That’s like Everclear for stoners!
hey i was wondering if this is open to everyone or do u hav to have one of those medical cards and such?
@coop25: I wish.
All dispensaries in the state of California require you to be a qualified medical marijuana patient with a correct and current medical marijuana recommendation.
I only go to Harbor Side..They are killer!!
I took my first trip to Harborside today….can I just say I will never spend major money at another dispensary as long as they are around. It is a waste of time and money..the selection is bananas. The only thing they lack is a lounge. Damn I’d never wanna leave though..so maybe a sans lounge is smart.
@KUSHQT: I agree 100%
They definitely know how to run a great dispensary.
the pain in the ass is that if your not from the US and come there (as with all other dispensary’s) you can’t buy
so who’s joining me with a good card there when i come to the US? =D hehehhe
@ Jeff: Not only do you have to be from the US, you have to be from the state of California.
No California ID = No MMJ.
how much are the clones at harborside?
@cody: Not sure, did not see a clone price list while I was there.
@cody – Just went there today. Clones=12/cut
Lol, its funny i found this website cause i went to HHC for the first time last week and pick up an 1/8 of there Blue Dreams and an 1/8 of there top selve Sour Chem. Let me tell you i got home and smoked 2 bowls of the Blues Dreams and started watching the Lakers game and woke up at 2a.m. wondering what happened
Im going back tomorrow to get some clones and im definetly gonna have to get some of that E.T.D. ill let you know what i think if im able too move!!!

Are all the strains available as clones and do they sell those Glass jars? or are they f
urchase
@bababooey: The line in the clone section was LOOOOONG so I did not even bother looking at the strains that were available.
As for the jars, not sure if they are for sale. Every top shelf 1/8th comes in one though.
@bababooey: No, we do not carry clones of every strain of flower we have at the bar. We do have a wide selection however. Unfortunately, we do not post our clone menu on forums, etc. anymore as they change regularly – sometimes several times a day. We will eventually have a daily updated menu coming soon to our website though: http://www.harborsidehealthcenter.com
Keep checking back regularly for updates on this.
As for the jars… No, we do not sell them empty, but they do come with each purchase of top shelf medicine!

Are you a doctor? Probably not so you’re comment has no weight. I smoke weed for one reason and it is a good one….I am a rager! I rage over everything and it’s hard to control if I am not stoned….for some reason just one hit will change my mentality 10 fold. As for most people who where stoners in school, that’s funny because I was sober 99% of the time I went to school and all I can remember was that is sucked and suicide was an option a lot of us kids thought about a lot….thank god I smoked weed when I got home or else I might not have made it. I mean I remember when they found out that my birthday was the same day as National Pigs day and I was fat…..bastards had the nerve to put it on the Menu in order that would most likely acquire the most ridicule for me haha….oh Marijuana I thank the gods (which I dont believe in) every day for you.
Bottom line…just a bunch of stoners getting weed legally.
Their ills are no doubt real, but I would like to see at least one ‘normal’ person who wasn’t a stoner in high school
obtaining weed.
My father started at 62 why are you on a website meant for stoners and medical users alike and bashing? Jusy appreciate who you are and enjoy the sites that interest you not the ones that preturb. I rarely chime in but I feel you needed to hear that someone actually smokes that wasnt a stoner in high school.
Hello I’m coming up to Oakland from so cal and I heard you need some type of Oakland buyers card to go to any of the dispensaries. Do you only need your doctors recommendation and an i.d. or do you need to get a card?
Does anyone know what type (if any) of Harborside’s clones or seeds will consistently produce a high CBD and low THC herb? I’m a chronic pain patient living in Orange County. I can barely even find CBD tested products in Southern California… let alone find clones/seeds that are high CBD.
I wrote the budmaster at Harborside and was more than a little surprised to have him tell me that even with testing… they’ve found that strains with high CBD aren’t consistently high in CBD. (What’s up with that? I thought CBD was just part of plant genetics.)
I don’t respond well to standard pain killer… but high CBD herb is the magic bullet for me. I’m trying to find a way of getting plants/seeds for a variety that will fit the bill.
Does anyone know if this even exists… and if so what strains I should ask for?
Not really because they just started testing for CBD’s recently. Not all collectives can afford the prices to get there weed tested…..one of the reasons why Harborside is so popular is because they are the model for clubs in America. They test there products on site. I have nothing bad to say about HHC and Steve does wonders for the community. Rock out HHC and keep up the good work.

Am I to seriously believe that no one knows about consistency of CBD in strains?
That kind of blows the concept of “medical” marijuana out of the water.
u are correct in believing that cbd levels are an issue of plant genetics, a plant born from two high cbd plants will usually rear in their likeness. but other things that must be kept in mind when analizing the canabinoid profile of select herb
1. light spectrum- varying intensity and wavelength can affect canabinoid profiles a good rule of thumb is warmer light=more indica cooler light=more sativa
2. nutient content and source. plants use high amounts of nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P), and potasium (K)nutrient content and variety of source dictates the intensity and spectrum of cannabinoids
3.(MOST IMPORTANT) TIME- most weed is picked at 6-8 weeks, some strains require more time, but its a rule of thumb that the longer you let them grow for (within reaso, without letting them die) the higher the cbd, the earlier its cut the higher thc/thc-v
hope i helped, and my best advice is to not trust what some one, even a medical facility sells you, why buy what grows in the ground????
Wow… since no one here seems to have a clue what the story is regarding CBD content of meds… can anyone refer me to a dispensary that does have a knowledgeable budmaster.
Someone has to know the answer to this.
First time visit to Harborside health center yesterday. YES its as great as everyone says. Great staff, very helpful introduction. Safe, secure and warm feeling inside. Outside is secure and clean as well.
The product is excellent and if anything overwhelming because they have so much to choose from.
HHC tests for thc & cbd levels. Had a strain called “Soma A+” there that was like 14% cbd.
Recommendation to Harborside: List your product with description online, if possible. It would be nice to read the label, like Avalanche and Original Purple, and see if it’s clone, sativa or indica, and what to expect. Also, THC %. I’d find it helpful to have such an online resource, especially since these nicknames don’t tell you much. Great facility, this is a positive suggestion..
yes they accept credit cards and atm… no gift credit cards tho..im there every day
Today i went and picked up an 8th of fire O.G. Kush and it was amazing. 60 bucks and it was better than a 90 buck 8th i saw in socal of the same strain

Everyone whos in the surrounding area of San Jose needs to check this place out ! I went today there second day open and couldnt belive how nice stylish and relaxed it was. it looks just like the harborside they have out in oakland with same good bud selection, and cocentrates and edibles, however have like 5 registers isntead of 10-15 also the friendly and knowladgble staff youd expect from them. im from san jose south so im hella happy to have them local. I picked up Sour Headband, and Santa Cruz Kush, both were A+ top quality Nug if you see it try it out, not to mention there sour disel keif, and ogXtwXsilver tooth full melt.
I’m from socal and came up to visit harborside while on christmas break. This place is sick! First of all, I didn’t have an OCBC card, and all they needed to do was check online to verify my rec, and then i was in. This place, first of all, is HUGE. A socal club is usually one room big…this place was like a hotel plaza compared to anywhere else I’ve seen, with about 10 counters and a separate counter for clones. There are a ton of great strains to pick from for both clones and bud, for pretty decent prices. Everyone in there was super nice, and everything seemed really safe. I specifically picked this place because it’s close to the freeway, and its in a safer Oakland area. The two things different from southern california: no free gifts for first time patients, and a tax. They throw on a tax to your purchase, so instead of getting a $45 1/8th, i ended up paying $49.89, so be prepared for that! Otherwise, this place is legit and definitely worth checking out if you’re from southern california.

Also, my +17% OG Kush and Bubble Diesel hash that I picked up today from Harborside has me walking on water. Quality, quality, quality at every level.
I have frequented all the clubs in Oaktown over the years and even the new ones in Richmond recently. My advice, after thousands of dollars gone to meds, only mess with Harborside. I used to think Purple Heart was the spot, loved their meds, but then I went to Harborside once. Went back to the Heart and their premium grade wasn’t getting me high any more. That’s the one con to Harborside, your tolerance will be raised considerably. Can’t have it all!!!
@PID#72939: the Elephant and Harborside are definitely my 2 fave. NorCal spots at the moment.

@PID#72939: the Elephant and Harborside are definitely my 2 fave. NorCal spots at the moment.
–Chubbs
Yes Chubbs, add the Elephant to the mix. Luke, the owner is way cool and I’m glad to see they are back at their new spot in S.J.
I am a regular at Harborside I can say not only is it the best dispensery in North America but they make Amsterdam’s cannabis selections laughable. I suggest if you live within a 1-2 hour drive, leave now buy their Intensive care Cheese and Grand daddy purple, buy their Afgoo and Purple kush super melts and at least once try the THC gold (ETD). So go on, get in your car and go now it’s a Cannaisseur’s dream I promise.
“Im a patient”
dude we all are but it seems to me more or less you want to rant. As an employee at a collective I can tell you we hate people like you who come in. You are the type that complains about other shops at our business and expect us to chime in with you and bash. Fact is me personally I will not talk down on a club…that is what weedmaps is for. Sucks you don’t feel HHC offers compassion because from the moment you walk in they are spewing compassion its just that you need to take advantage of it.
I am very disappointed with Harborside San Jose. They seem to be posers of the worst kind, supposedly compassionate to patients and their needs but in fact it’s all about the money. Their patient care is non-existent and the same goes for their compassion. Mr. De Angelo needs to place some adult supervision at these places – but the money comes in so easily I guess he just doesn’t care. I expected more from Harborside because of their website which talked the talk, but unfortunately they can not walk the walk. I lived for years in Amsterdam and they don’t make big claims, but they are extremely friendly and helpful – maybe it’s to do with the Dutch mentality.
My first few visits were good, mainly because of one of the budtenders who was very knowledgeable and cool and all I needed was to buy my medicine. But as soon as a little more was expected from them, they failed totally and their customer service is worse than any bank or corporation – which it seems they want to emulate.
In the last few weeks I wrote them twice asking a question about the collective and also about some information I needed as a patient and I never received a response, until I wrote to the Oakland collective which answered my questions. So two weeks ago I went to Oakland and was served by a budtender who had the social skills of a mutant and could not answer any of my questions in an intelligent manner, big disappointment for someone needing answers to find the right medication.
I follow their tweets which list all the new varieties, edibles, concentrates AND their prices. They also list clones but don’t include a price. So I called today to find out the price of clones and spoke to a woman called Renee who would not answer my questions and did not seem interested in doing so. If she can’t give the info on the phone ask for my email address and send the info, it’ll take two seconds or even better offer to add the price of clones (as they do with the medicine) to the tweets, I am sure I am not the only one who wants to know the price. I am a patient, check it out on your computer as a bank would do if I called about something. But she expected me to get in my car and drive twenty minutes to see if I like their clone pricing or not. What finally did it for me was when I called back ten minutes later to say I want to cancel my membership and have my records pulled and was asking about that when she hung up one me.
Obviously despite the hyperbole and self praise on their website – it’s basically come in, put your money down and leave. Just like the corner drug dealer, but here they do it under the guise of compassion and caring for patients. There is so much money involved in this industry that I think there needs to be very careful state, county or city supervision to make sure that people really are treated like patients and at a minimum receive the same respect and care as a corner Walgreens pharmacy – which is not much. Harborside San Jose does NOT treat you as a patient and in fact does not even treat you like a consumer – you’ll get better customer phone service calling Best Buy.
It seems like a lot of people, patients and collective owners forget the fact that prop 215 and sb 420 were enacted to provide medicine to people and not to create new business opportunities although all of this seems to be lost as cities see the huge revenues they can collect from taxation. The dispensaries are here to serve the patients and not the other way round. I don’t think it will be too far in the future that patients will organize and demand that the collectives really provide compassionate care. Don’t forget the bill was passed for us and not for people to disrespect us and make money of our backs.
I hope the attorney general looks into these dispensaries – if they treat their patients like a pharmacy does – answering questions and trying to help I say let them dispense medication – if all they can do is take your money and no more – SHUT THEM DOWN!
@Red Leb: They offer free Chiropractic, accupuncture, yoga, and grow lessons to their patients. On top of that, their prices are fair in every way and their selection is enormous. How can you say they are not compassionate? You honestly sound like the stereotypical persistent customer. If their policy is to not provide pricing over the phone, then just deal with it. Contrary to your claims, the budtenders that have served me have always been knowledgeable and friendly. I don’t even know why I am defending them, everyone around here knows that they are the best.
Wow…!
This place seems to have everything.
They test 2 grams in a lab, 2 grams of what could end up being over 500 grams of product. If you thinking all 500 grams came from the same plant or will be “exactly” the same, then you are smoking more then your meds. (joke).
The unfortunate reality is there will be deviations. Even if the club was lucky enough to receive a full order that was made with the same exact Clone from the Same Mother in the same grow, it can still end up being higher/lower quality throughout the “bag”. One plant may not get as much light or root as well or get watered as consistently, etc.
Since they can only test a small portion of the order, there isn’t much they can do aside from providing a money back guarantee.
Take back the left over “bad” bud and make a complaint with management. I am not sure their “rules” but I am aware of more than one club that has a 100% warranty on everything they sell. If you don’t like it, you take it back for a full refund and the “vendor” which provided the meds to the club gets the short end of the stick…. which is the way it should be, if you can’t be consistent then you shouldn’t be providing medication for sale.
If I had my guess, it was a vendor who got bullshit clones from one of the bullshit clone dealers in the bay area. (99% of them).
I use to love this place. It seems their medication has gone downhill. I always buy top shelf meds. If you buy top shelf @ $65 an 1/8 you expect to get quality medication. Not so anymore. I went on 5/13/10 to buy an 1/8 of Burple. It was good. Though, I did find a seed. Because I was happy with that strain I went back on 5/20/10 to buy another 1/8 because I ran out. I noticed that this batch was a little different. When I asked, they just said it was retested. The 1st Burple batch was at 10% thc. The second, 14%. There were four buds in the top shelf jar. The big one on the bottom and the other three around it. The smell was good and the buds on top looked pretty much like the other. I bought that 1/8 and left. I always use the smaller herbs first to medicate. Save the biggest for last. Well, I used the top buds first like always. No problem there. Same relief using these meds. Then, I made my way to the biggest bud in the 1/8. Wow, where do I start. This bud did not even look the same. The little hue of purple that it did have looked like fake purple. Also, it had nanners all inside of it. I believe nanners are part of a male flower. When I tried to medicate with it I just got a bad headache. That was the worst med I ever tried to smoke for $65. Really, it seems that the quality has gone away. Did they just give me this jar because I brought up there was a seed in the last batch? Be careful with what you buy at Harborside. And on a side note, some of the new budtenders could have more compassion. The rude and rock star act does not cut it. Thank you for your time.
Sorry, the reply was for Ganja, not wiggabeejee
from all of the vids i’ve seen of this place on youtube, and after reading your review, it definately seems like the real deal.
I’m planning on moving to CA within a year or two and once i do, i’ll be sure to check this place out.
this is my local dispensary. Best selection I have seen in The Bay. The staff is knowledgeable and the medicine is tested and top notch. Great selection of edibles and the carmels are insane. Its busy on the weekend with a 15 minute wait tops. If you go during the week, you are in and out. Definitely check this spot out!
I do agree that some clubs do have budtenders that act like rockstars but I usually put them in there place and bounce….as for HHC I have sensed it on 1 occasion but still that was a fluke and they usually fire anyone that is not cutting it. (also some of these people have moved on to work for other clubs)
