Grey Area is one of, if not the only coffee shop in Amsterdam owned and operated by Americans. I was lucky enough to be staying at a hotel that was just a few doors down from Grey Area. One morning I stopped in and grabbed a gram of their 2008 Cup entry, Grey Martian.

Type: Hybrid
Price: Appx. $12/Gram
Looks: Dark green buds. Very tight and sticky.
Smell: Strong pine smell. Call me crazy, but it also kind of smelled like a steak.
Taste: Very thick. No doubt it is strong weed. Resin taste had me coughing.
Buzz Type: Uplifting high. Put a smile on my face after 2 bong hits.
Buzz Length: Medium. When mixed with Grey Area’s hash entry, Grey Crystal it lasted much longer.
Overall: Good bud from a great shop. Next time I’ll try and see if they have some bigger buds. I have a feeling they are a bit more impressive.
Buzz Report: Grey Area is probably the smallest coffee shop in Amsterdam with 2 tables and 8 chairs. The line is pretty much always out the door. I was lucky enough to get a seat and use a house bong to rip all the Grey Martian I bought. It took me only 10 minutes or so and when I stood up to return the bong to the counter, I just about fainted. –Chubbs

Did you get to meet the owners directly or anything? Where are they from in the U.S.? And how long have they been living there with this place?
Yes, I met the owners. They man the shop all day, every day. Very hands on.
They are both a couple young guys from The Valley. I’d say they are in the early 30’s and have been there for a while.
I did not ask them specifically, but I can remember reading about Grey Area like 5+, maybe 10 years ago in High Times.
Yea the chiefs are chill as hell. Area is only american owned shop out there. I know John is originally from Rhode Island. I think they opened the shop in 1992. Im goin out there this month..cant wait to see what kind of DNA genetics fire is in stock.
Speaking of DNA, they have 2 shops selling a strain they developed called Chocolope that took 3rd place in the cup.
Green Place is the shop that is selling the 3rd place buds specifically. I think Grey Area is the other shop.

yeah grey area is where they sell the chocolope also, stuff is ill. was there in 06 for the cup, had an amazing time! my buddy is tight with those guys, when he was there last year they give him buds that aren’t on the menu, the real good stuff ha ha.
