Even though we’ve reviewed Grand Daddy Purple already (read review), I’m happy to have received this GDP review from Vaporizer. Not only does it let me compare the 2 different varieties of GDP, but I LOVE PURPLE WEED!

I don’t know about everyone out there but for some reason I’m just not a huge fan of purple strains. They always taste similar to me, and people always say how much better they are then other types of weed just cause the color. The strongest weed I have ever smoked has been good og kush’s, chemdawg, and super silver haze, none of which are purple. To get this much purple they either had to harvest very late, or had low temperatures. Purp strains do have the bag appeal if your cash croppin, but I feel like there is better tastes out there. Anyway, this stuff still looks bomb and based on your review, sounded like a good smoke, but everyone out there don’t equate purple meaning high quality right off the bat.
meangreenmartian: I agree. I love purple weed because of the way it looks. I have been blazing for 22+ years now and the same old lime green bud with nice trichomes and bright orange hairs gets a little boring. (Just the looks not the buzz)
I have yet to smoke a “purple” strain that gets me as high as a really strong OG Kush but that does not mean I don’t enjoy smoking them. In fact I’d say my top 5 buds have zero purple in them.
And as far as bag appeal, they are the best. But as you say, they do all have a very similar flavor.
I have not been able to smoke any purple strain. But this one sound very nice.
Nice review.
Purple weed is beautiful ..
purple strains are okay in my book mostly because of appearance. I dont have any purple strains in my top 5 list .. Only because purple strains tend to not hit as hard as .. lets say .. OG Master Kush..
Still love the way it looks though ..
purple=awesome because most good purps (like the beauty pictured) are 100% indica. good MK or indica heavy OGs can be more of a ride though.
i would ssay gdp would be in my top 5 even tho its not the best ive had i would rather have this then any other
NEED to get that GDP to Amsterdam and take the Cannabis Cup!
This was one of the first buds I smoked when I moved to Cali. The reason is I had some I had brought from Ga. some purple thrax and let me tell you while the kush’s and a gang of ativas as well are very dank here in Cali but the best purps that I have had have been in Ga.
Does anyone know where the “purple” color come from? Certain genes or what?
@vapor: Can be genes or cool temperatures at night.
I get granddaddy purp all the time and some of it doesnt have any purp at all, and it is still the shit. A grower that I know says it has alot to do with the temperature of the grow. When I buy a good purp I dont look for the purp as much as that sig purp taste and smell.
twylight.. i agree, i just got a batch of purple kush and only some of the nugs are really purple, the rest are light green, but the smell and taste is definately obvious. overall though, love this strain mostly because of the taste! though the flight is not too bad either!
I got some Granddaddy Purple from Harborside in Oakland.
The Clerk told me for my inflammation and joint pain this was the hook-up.
He was spot on. It looks awesome, smells nice and it floats me off to sleep at the end of a hard day.
I prefer this to Kush, as I am mostly looking for pain relief, and not a stone. If that makes any sense.
I’m also a fan. Grandaddy purple is often on the delivery service menu in NYC.
one of my favorite strains…
GDP ftw!
This is the one I have now compare to the other reviews.
Thanks for the review. I purchased my GDP at Green Room in Cali they told me it was a Sativa. Anyone else get this as a Sativa?
I have some nugs that look identical to the ones you have pictured – beautifully frosted purple nugs. Same crop even? A year ago, when you posted those pictures, I was getting the same thing.
Only its been sold to me as purple urkle, not grand daddy purple. Are these strains one in the same, or just very similar?
It is definitely an indica, all the way around.
I’m back. I just wanted to add that this strain is totally unique. For those who have only seen pictures…The smell, taste, and high are completely out of the ordinary. A lot of people don’t particularly like it, because the high is not your typical potent, hard-hitting high. Its very cerebral for an indica and for me it is very ‘tingly’. The immediate effects are lighter and will take a few minutes to develop and its sort of a creeper. Still, I think its very potent, I don’t have to smoke more than any other potent strain. As for flavor and smell, it is sort of a sweet, musky, purple candy thing. It does not have a ’sharp’ or distinctly skunky smell, its a softer, warm and fruity smell that just smells like ‘purple’. I never get that choked-up, cross-eyed, kicked-in-the-forehead feeling immediately after a bonghit with this one, but the unique effects are still equally desirable to that opposite end of the spectrum, for me anyway, and it is in no way a soft smoke or lacking in potency. While the highs from most other strains blur together this one really stands out, and I’m a sativa lover!
one of my top 3 strains of all time. just picked up another fresh batch of gdp and i can’t wait to get these girls flowering. for those of you saying that purple color is only a result of temperature, “meangreenmartian” i have to disagree. exposing your plants to cold air is one way of coaxing the calyxs and leaves to possibly turn purple but does stress the plants and is not recommended. what most people don’t know is that purple coloring is a recessive trait found in many strains of cannabis, it’s in the genes and can therefor be bred for, isolated, and stabilized. i have grown gdp plants that were NEVER exposed to air colder than 73 degrees and they turned so purple they almost looked black and i have had some pheno’s that never showed any purp. for a real purple strain like gdp, it’s in the genes and anybody who has smoked the REAL gdp knows that it IS as good as it looks, probably better…
Recently got some Blue Daddy. GDP x Blueberry. Verrrry nice.
Very vibrant chunky looking buds, very nice GDP specimen. Does anyone know how this strain compares to Purple Urkle? I realize GDP is 1/2 Urkle, but was wondering if the cross to big bud made the GDP a little less potent, but perhaps better yields.
grand daddy purp
smoothest purp
grapiest smoke
Well, actually the real erkle is notoriously slow vegging, and the buds aren’t huge, so they crossed it with the Big bud to speed and fatten it up. There’s not much difference in the flavor but I think the potentcy is not quite as good. So yea headrush, a little less potent, a liitle better yielding.
Damn iPicked up 2 g’s of this shit yesterday ran to my friends house smoked it and man iWas fuckin gone iImmidetely felt the stimulation of my mind this bid is amazeing
So dark I could just lick the frost off
Purple strains are the best for chilling very potent manageable high but makes you tired and gives you the munchies!
