With his first submitted review, Marijuana Reviews member ston3rf4g comes through with some bud that I am looking to forward to reading about. The fabled Chocolate Thai. Here is the message he sent with the review:
"After reading about a previous review about the strain "Thai" I decided I had to do the strain some justice. I had a rare but successful pickup of an eighth of Chocolate Thai in New York suburbs (Westchester county) earlier in the fall of 2008. Although rumors that this strain is nearly extinct (as well as many other rumors of other strains such as ATF which is currently being sold in several medical clubs), I’m fairly sure that the batch I received was legitimate.
The story of how Chocolate Thai came to be was that the weed was grown around coffee and chocolate plants and therefore adapted the smell, taste, and look."

From: Private Dealer
Grade: B
Type: Sativa
Price: $70/8th
Looks: Full dense nugs. Very dark brown buds with red hairs and crystals on the bud (was NOT just some brown dirt weed).
Smell: A chocolate/dark aroma, without the smell of skunk or fruit. Unlike any other weed I’ve smoked.
Taste: Tasted like chocolate/coffee. Real thick and heavy taste to the smoke, but smooth.
High: Strong head high. Not a creeper but a distinct gradual high that did not kick you in the face. The high was slightly cloudy and confusing.
Overall: Chocolate Thai was definitely an experience and I was lucky to come by a batch of it. The high was unique as well as the taste and the bud itself. It’s a great bud to try, but overall, I think it’s more of a novelty bud than anything else. It was cool and all but there are much better and more effective strains out there with more favorable highs. I feel as if this is one of those strains that gets over-hyped from the name, rumors, and uniqueness of the bud, but it really is not all that great. –ston3rf4g
I have to agree that it seems that Chocolate Thai is more of a myth than a reality. I mean it is around, but the days of dark brown spears dripping with resin, tied to a hemp stick with a piece of hemp string are gone. –Chubbs

I agree that is seems like a ‘novelty’ type strain. I would like to try it however because it does seem pretty unique.
Nice review!
haha! you got ripped. i get that here in hawaii all the time. dats sum lumbs. aroun 200 an orange. fruity. gives you that hours of headache afterward.
It’s all about the clear headed high with this stuff. Remember not everyone has the tolerance that most people here have. I have a Thai x Skunk on hand, that while is pretty weak to me, seems to appeal to my buddies with little tolerance.
Ouch! Just looked at the price.
For $70/8th I’m hoping it tastes REALLY good.
I have the F2 of DNA’s Chocolate Thai which was bred using the best plants from kilos of the original CT in the 90’s… so far, it’s a fabulous plant to grow.. going into the greenhouse in a month or so
Zack: If you have time some day, I’d LOVE to see some pics. I am a big fan of quality Chocolate Thai. When I can find it that is.
True Ston3rf4g it may be a novelty or myth to smokers today but back in the early 80’s this was the shit along with skunk and i dont how strong this strain is today because i have not seen it since the late 80’s but back then it did have me on my ass and incompasitated more than a few times could be the strain was stronger back then. by the way who sells it besides DNA would love to get a hold of some seeds.
By the way from what i remember it the taste was slightly choclatey with a rich taste wich is why i liked it so much but to each his own.
that chocolate tie is bomb I have had that in a long time its a very good high its worth buying also the blueberry kush is bomb
well back in the 80’s i had chocolate thai by the key and it was all the rage it started the whole one grame dime thing for us it was a pure sativa head don’t know what genetics make up todays but back then it truly was one of the best
@dbi420: You didn’t happen to live in near Diamond Bar did you?
J/K. I had pretty much the same experience back in the day.
Yuck man!
HEY CHUBBS You really need to take in the aspect of not just posting anyones review half these people dont even have Legitimate Resources How my suppose to believe these are legitimate reviews!?!?!?
@PeepsMcgee: While some members obviously have more experience than others, I take most people at their word that their reviews are honest and accurate based on their experience.
I do my best to weed out the idiots that just send in plagiarized crap.
I was getting this about twelve years ago from a guy that allways had killer herb and this was no exception looked alot like this lots of dark to light golden brown color and yes it smelled like chocalate weed a near perfect mix of the two cost me 30 an eighth and got me tore good stuf. This pic alone brings me great memories.
You know I have lived across the united states. The northern lights, shiva, green crack, alaskin thunder, you name it have all been the same. The only diferance was the obvious some were grown better than others. I have ran into countless people here in Cali that think theyre the only ones getting the real deal, and most of them honestly have never left the state. I live here BUT CALIFORNIA IS NOT THE ONLY PLACE THAT GROWS GOOD HERB!
@twylights: Agree. But we definitely grow the most, the best, and have the most strains to choose from.
It’s not rocket science. We’ve just been at it a lot longer than most.
True other parts of the country realy start getting the higher grades in on a regular til about 2001-2002 so I tottally agree about longer and everything else, but I definitely smoked good
‘But the samurai, CL Smooth I, be slicin’ dicin’ you down, when the mic is around. I rebound like Oakley when you provoke me, this is the Chocolate Thai be careful how you toke me.’
Always wished I could get some the ol’ Thai from the NY 90’s
I smoked bags of chocolate thai back in the late 70’s. It was some of the best tasting weed I’ve had to date. The high was a little nervous like if I remember right. $200.00 per oz. The pics posted don’t look like the real McCoy. Not brown enough. The stuff back then was almost chocolate brown with red hairs. It was moist and smelled almost like a Starbucks coffee house. The leaves were skinny like a sativa. I really wish I could find some of that now. Especially at the prices back then.
really guys, its just good mexican brick weed
it used to come in bricks wrapped tightly in string. before its packed its saturated in oils and compressed and that why you get such a relaxing stone. the great thing is the chocolatey smell and taste. Definitely not super strong, but you could smoke a whole lot of it and it just kept hitting harder and harder so i wonder. You will cry when i told you this stuff was 120/oz CDN hahaha. Thats why I loved it, half the price of anything else.
To add though, the quality of it made it seem like it was worth much more thats why it easily goes for 200 and up soo i wouldnt say anyone got ripped off. I wouldn’t doubt it came from thailand though by the way it was packaged. looked like it made a long journey
I’ve enjoyed the fruits of the Chocolate Thai variety, also in upstate NY, but it was back in 2002 and 2003. Looked and smells the same, but Cannabis does not carry characteristics from other plants, like coffee beans and chocolate…
Thai is a Old World Strain, as old as pot. But Chocolate is an F1 Stain (a Cross of 2 old world Strains.) Crossing Thai x Chocolate, leaving Chocolate Thai a 75% Sativa and 25% Indica strain that has been around for sometime.
It is somewhat in the category of Panama Red and Haze in the sense it’s an old strain, that’s very very rare.
However, it does smell and taste peculiarly like Chocolate Malt. It does so in a way that Blueberry strain tastes like Blueberries. Not exactly, but the hint is there.
Very unique strain, and you got totally ripped. 70 an Eigth?? I get NL5 x Haze for 50…freakin’ kids, you’ll pay anything, lol.
the bud looks like it was grown outdoors and 70$…? dam. i think you got ripped off buddy
Were talking East Coast here… the dankness ranges from $60-$75/eight.
Used to get chocolate thai in the early 90’s in NY. Looked kind of like that, but darker, and it was extremely sticky, very resinous. Used to get it for $25/8th, miss those days. One of the best strains I’ve ever smoked, and I’ve smoked quite a few here in NY and in Amsterdam.
In NY in the mid 70’s Thai Sticks (never heard of “Chocolate”) ranged from average to poisoness to flipping devastating.Probably best herb I’ve ever smoked. Smoked a bowl once and went deer hunting. A deer could’ve walked right up and licked my face and I wouldn’t have moved.
looks gross
