Apparently a bunch of you feel the same way I do regarding Ca. being the current marijuana capital of the world.

That being said, I think it is time for someone to organize a serious “cup style” event here in Ca. to showcase some of the serious fire that we are working with.

“Tang”, the owner of WeedMaps.com and I have been talking about doing something like this for a while and I think now the time is right.

While we don’t have too many details yet, (Tang does not even know I am announcing this ) I can tell you that we will be holding 2 separate events annually.

The first will take place in either January or February of 2010 and will be held in SoCal.

Again, we don’t have any details yet as we are still in the very beginning stages of planning the project (I know it’s short notice but that’s how I work best) but I can assure it will be by far the most entertaining event to hit the industry in a long time.

If you are not medical, get medical because the only way you will be able to attend is if you are a current California medical marijuana patient.

Over the next few weeks we’ll both be making announcements on both MR and WeedMaps with more information on the event and how you can register/attend.

WeedMaps.com

The current version of the site is what I am calling the “beta version” and is pretty much just a place holder until my designer gets done with the final template.

Fortunately the review system that powers the site will not be changing and you all can currently surf the site and write as many reviews as you’d like.

All reviews that are posted on the beta version will be carried over to the permanent version once it is complete.

The process is simple, here’s how it works:

All you have to do is find a dispensary on the list that you have been to, click it’s name then scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Once at the bottom of the page all you have to do is fill in your name, your email address and your website (if you have one) and then write your review.

Your review can be as long and detailed or as short and concise as you’d like. All I ask is that it is honest.

After writing your review, you can then quickly rank the dispensary in 5 categories (Bud Quality, Staff, Convenience, Atmosphere, Price) by mousing over/clicking the stars in the table to the right of the review text box.

The final step is to click the “Submit Comment” button and you are done.

The entire process, depending on how long a review you write should take no more that a minute. Quick and easy.

If a dispensary you want to review is not listed just send and email to info@dispensarylist.com and we will add it right away.

WeedMaps.com is a resource for medical marijuana patients to connect with local cannabis clubs to freely discuss and exchange information.

In addition, WeedMaps has community discussions where you can find a 420 friendly roommate or jobs in the medical marijuana industry. The guys at WeedMaps just came out with a cool iphone application that’s really cool too for when you are on the go and can’t remember if you are suppose to be in Suite B or Suite C.

The site is totally free and open for anybody (just like Marijuana Reviews) and I recommend anybody with a medical cannabis patient card to go check them out and register for an account right now.

I’ll be writing an in-depth review of WeedMaps in the near future but as I said, I met with Justin yesterday and got a good vibe for how he runs his site. I can honestly say that I am 100% comfortable referring you guys to his site.  –Chubbs

What caused me to bookmark Grass City and what keeps me coming back every day is not actually the retail end of the site, it’s the forum. With there being so many of us stoners out there, it was common sense that there should be a place for us to converge online and speak our minds. in July of 2000 Grass City was created and has done an excellent job of providing such a place. As of today, they are ranked #445 on big-boards.com list of most popular chat boards which is something to be proud of imo.

I thought I’d go over as much of the site as I can in an attempt to give everyone a clear idea of how they can benefit from both the headshop and the forums. For many of you this is ‘old news’ as you have probably been members of Grass City much longer than I have. But for a lot of people this review should help out when it comes to finding anything from a nice glass piece to the right forum to post pictures of your favorite bong. And for the record, I am NOT a Grass City affiliate as you can easily tell by the lack of an affiliate code in each/every link included in this review.

Headshop

The sidebar that runs down the right side of GC on each page list some really useful information. In addition to links based on the category you are looking at, there are tables/links for Top Sellers, New Items, A “Learn More” table with links to stuff like how to grow marijuana.

There is also a table at the very bottom of the sidebar that with links that convert the language of the text on the site to english, french, italian, german, spanish and dutch in addition to a currency converter and a shopping cart link.

At the very bottom, in the footer of each page of the Grasscity.com headshop there are the usual links that can be found on many websites along with a few extras like grasscity community, my wishlist and payment methods.

For those of you who do not know what affiliate marketing is, it’s where you build a website and on that website you advertise Grass City (or any other site that has it’s own affiliate program). When a user on your site clicks the Grass City banner and ends up buying something on GC, you are paid a commission for referring the sale. In order for your sales to be tracked, you must first sign up as a Grass City affiliate then, then log in and grab your affiliate code that you will attach to any and everything you use to send traffic to GC.

Community Forums

The Grasscity.com forums are some of the best online. I think the main reason the forums are so popular is because it is ran by a group of moderators that not only care about marijuana, but also care about running a great site. The forums on GC are some of the most heavily moderated forums I have visited so be sure to follow the rules. Take a look at how the forums are broken down. Keep in mind they tend to change every so often.

Stats

As of today (February 27, 2009) there are 306,868 threads, 3,717,214 posts, 124,406 members and 39,492 active memebrs.

Those are some SERIOUS numbers folks. Should GC ever decide to start selling ad space, they are going to absolutely make a killing!

Overall

Both sides of Grasscity.com have proven over the years to be great sites. In a way they are kind of like 2 sites, a headshop and a forum combined into 1. Whatever the case, it’s working.

In addition to the features and sections I mentioned above, when it comes to the forums there are also all the usual’s that come with a site that’s using the Vbulletin script like private messaging, your own admin page, profile picture, etc.

I have no idea what Grass City has in store for the future but even if they did not change anything from today on, I think they’d have an A+ site for quite a long time.  –Chubbs
