Type: Hybrid

Price: $55/8th

Looks: Buds are solid and super-sticky, coats your fingers when you break ‘em up! Dark green leaves just dripping in trichomes with a ton of lovely red hairs woven throughout.

Smell: The aroma is a strange combination, a slight sour dankness with a large overtone of forest after a spring shower. It has a rich body with biting highlights. Maybe it’s just me, but I didn’t smell cheese at all.

Taste: The smoke is a smooth and mellow flow with no hitches of harsh at all. The taste is once again a complex combination! The start of a hit has a taste that is mellow yet slightly bitter on the tongue and the aftertaste is a warm woody flavor that coats the tongue.

Buzz Type: Heavy Hitter! By the time I set the lighter down after the first hit that little voice in my head was back again announcing: "Whoa…batten down the hatches, raise the mizzen mast and tack the jib!" (I’m not sure what that all meant, sometimes the voice in my head surprises me!)

Buzz Length: Long. The length of buzz was excellent. Just under two hours of high flying fun. Bit of a crash at the end, but small price to pay!

Overall: Starting the morning off with Jack Johnson on the stereo and a nice mug of coffee, I grabbed a seat on the couch and proceeded to fill my favorite glass…the curly-que steamer with a fat bowl of Blue Cheese. I’d been tipped off that this was an excellent strain so I had high hopes. I was not disappointed, from first lighter flick to the last ash Blue Cheese was a treat!

First up was a super full rich hit with dense smoke and by the time I exhaled and was setting the lighter down I swear to god that little voice in my head had become a sailor. It kept saying things like "Whoa matey!" and "Batten down the hatches!" and not being a sailor myself…I had no idea what it was talking about. All I know is…well, I guess I really didn’t know much at that point cuz I was high.

Not being a quitter, I gave the curley-que another whirl and took another big ‘ole hit. This one was a cougher…and it left me seeing stars! At this point it’s now been nearly 20 minutes and I’ve taken exactly two hits. I’m beginning to think I might have put a bit too much in the bowl! But on the bright side…Jack Johnson is REALLY sounding great now.

The whole ride on Blue Cheese was awesome, even though at the end I required a nap. Excellent choice for sitting on the couch and really enjoying some music. Worth the cash! –menu4twenty

Looks: Cute round little balls. Popcorn buds.

Smell: Lavender really shines in the aroma department! Sweet and with hints of Lilac.

Taste: A very flowery taste, light and rich at the same time.

Buzz Type: Staying with the "knock me over with a feather" theme, Lavender’s buzz is soft and velvety yet intense.

Buzz Length: Long. Buzz went on and on, coming on stronger in a wave then receding until another wave. Quite fun for being out in public! Easily two hours!

Overall: Lavender is a true velvet hammer! The smoke is not super thick and dense but the high sure is! The high slowly travels up from your toes and crashes over your head in a wave after wave action. Not quite a creeper, more like a cycle. I found this strain excellent for heading out on the town because not only did it stone the heck outta me…it didn’t leave me sleepy or looking for somewhere to sit down. I’d give Lavender a big ‘ole THUMBS UP! Well worth the cash! –menu4twenty

Type: Indica

Looks: The Belmont OG buds are thick and dense with an almost dark emerald glow to them. The resemblance to an actual shrub only in miniature is uncanny!

Smell: The Belmont OG has a deep really earthy aroma that explodes out of the container upon opening.

Taste: The taste is once again a very "thick" experience with overtones of earth. The aftertaste is smooth and echoes the aroma perfectly.

Buzz Type: Heavy Hitter! – Being a daily user of medication I have a pretty good tolerance but this stuff rocked my Richter Scale! The first hit sets ya back a step…and you never seem to recover back to normal speed.

Buzz Length: Overall the length of buzz was moderate, little over an hour and a half. With a super-fast initial high and a nice soft landing at the end I’d say this was a good flight!

Overall: I picked up this strain as an after-thought, when the strain I had been after was sold out. The bud-tender gave me a little wink and a smile and said she was sure this one would fit the bill. So…off I went on home to give it a try.

Once I hit the pad I busted out my favorite piece of glass, a curly-que steamer. Packed it full and put a little flame to this mystery recommendation…and that is really all I remember clearly for the next hour or two. The first hit of dense thick smoke was a lot smoother than I figured it would be. The flavor was very earthy, almost like dirt in a way. Exactly 3 seconds after I exhaled I heard that little voice in my head say: "Duuuuude…your stoned!" and I had to agree with him. That was probably the first hint that it was gonna be some good stuff!

Figuring I just had to power through it, I hit it again and actually saw those little explosions and floaty stars in the corners of my eyes this time upon exhale. I also noticed right around then that I had somehow slumped down so far in my chair that I could effectively rest my soda on my chest. This is the position I remained in for the next hour or so as I flipped back and forth between the Korean Home Shopping channel and the Discovery Channel. I learned that not only do monkeys throw dung at each other, you can get almost anything for 17 yen.

I’d give this one a big old THUMBS UP! Worth the cash. –menu4twenty

Name: Heavy Duty Fruity

From: Belmont Shore Natural Care (Dispensary – Long Beach)

Grade: B++

Type: Hybrid (Sativa dominant)

Price: $50/8th

Looks: Long buds that were pretty fluffy and light.

Smell: The smell was slight citrus crossed with a forest. Not super pungent but nice.

Taste: Taste was a bit on the harsher side but tolerable.

Buzz Type: I liked the buzz, excellent for doing chores around the house! Energetic yet a solid stone.

Buzz Length: Medium length buzz, right around an hour with a real gentle let down.

Overall: Heavy Duty Fruity was a nice medium priced selection. Though I was disappointed that buds were sloppily trimmed, the high was a nice gentle ride that I enjoyed. The harsh smoke and taste were a bummer, but the high and the fact that it came with a few seeds made up for it!

I’d give Heavy Duty Fruity a second try…but won’t go out of my way to track it down. –menu4twenty

Looks: Nice chunky buds that are quite dense.

Smell: Skywalker’s scent is more of a whisper than a roar and seemed rather lackluster.

Taste: The taste was nice, you know how a fresh spring day smells? Similar to that. Very "organic" in taste.

Buzz Type: Very light and cerebral for an Indica.

Buzz Length: Overall the length of buzz was short, little under an hour.

Overall: Being a fan of the Star Wars series I had high hopes for the hero of the universe. Unfortunately those were dashed when I fired a complete bowl and still found myself drawn to the darkside. It was almost like a movie that’s all hype and leaves you wondering where the action is. Having sampled the Darth Vader recently too, I’d have to say…the DeathStar has nothing to fear from Luke in this version! –menu4twenty

Looks: Pale earthy brownish green with amber colored hairs. Very sticky and has tons of kief when ground up.

Smell: OMG – Amazing like pine and lemon scented jet fuel SUPER STRONG SMELL…wish I had more!!!

Taste: Just like the smell – tangy and lemon like on exhale…very smooth.

Buzz Type: Slight delay after toking 2 packed bowls. I sit for a bit and before you can realize you’re completely spaced out in LALA land, I went from typing to simply staring at the mouse pointer on screen for a few minutes.

NOT for wake-n-bake. You will be down and out from the head, face, and mild body buzz. It feels as if you were smacked right in the face with a wooden paddle and your feet get a warm and heavy feeling. I’ve heard the high being described as temporary “mental retardation” which is right on point with this bud.

Buzz Length: Medium. 1 ½ to 2hrs.

Overall: Very nice smoke for the price, but not for socializing or doing anything important or dangerous…you will be lost!!! –doublejay_CPT

Looks: Tight dense buds with short stubby orange hairs. Decent trich coverage on the outside of the bud but once broken up this stuff is stickyy ickyy.

Smell: Super sweet skunk with a little hint of a piney smell. It was pleasant.

Taste: On the inhale it’s a little sweeter than the exhale. It gets almost bitter witch was the only downfall of these nugs.

Buzz Type: Creeper for sure. You can take about 2 decent snaps before you feel any buzz but once it creeps up on you get ready for some lingering haha. My eyes started to get heavy and blood red about 10 min after smoking 2 good sized snaps out of my bong.

This weed really makes me tired though. It puts my body and mind in an overall great state.

Buzz Length: Medium to long. There was a lot of bowl sized nugs in my 8th so you break up one nugget and smoke it and you’re medicated for a good hour and a half to 2 hours.

Overall: Good medical marijuana strain for insomnia that has you feeling great like you’re in your own little stoned bubble of happiness. And for $35 an 8th you can’t go wrong here. –bodyboarderpoe

From: Nature’s Top Shelf Medicinals (Dispensary – Long Beach)

Grade: A+

Type: Sativa

Price: $22.50/Gram (Got it free as a first time visit bonus)

Looks: Dark green with a mix of fiery red and orange hairs, lots of trichs. Looks a little under-cured, and it’s fairly sticky and almost squishy to the touch.

Smell: Sort of like cucumbers and skunky marijuana.

Taste: Light and crisp, sort of like dulled sour candy.

Buzz Type: Energetic. I understand why they call this Green Crack now. I was practically bouncing off of the walls. I wasn’t quite giddy, but I was definitely cheerful. Very good smoke. Smooth hits, thick smoke. Not very harsh at all.

Buzz Length: Medium-long. Pretty nice. A couple hours, give or take.

Overall: Great smoke. Another top shelf Sativa. I’m glad to see more well grown Sativa strains out there lately, maybe it’ll get Long Beach out of this "ALL KUSH ALL THE TIME" mentality. Nothing against kush, but we need something for the mornings Great strain, and if it wasn’t for the price this would be a great strain to keep around for daily use.

Buzz Report: Very gradual build, and it goes mostly to the head. Very uplifting, but I also noticed a good painkilling effect. My back was bothering me, and it helped a lot. –Ghost Guy

Looks: Medium green, sugary, lots of hairs, fluffy.

Smell: Piney, fruity and very woodsy and green. I don’t smell any pineapple though.

Taste: Very earthy and green.

Buzz Type: Heady, cerebral. No couch lock at all. Very enjoyable smoke. Little aftertaste. A little bit harsher than I’d like which keeps it from being A+, but great bud.

Buzz Length: Long, 3+ hours.

Overall: Great strain. Price is higher than I usually pay, but I had to try it at least once.

Buzz Report: Very mellow and psychedelic feeling. Very upbeat and energetic, but thoughts were clouded very easily. It was a very distracted high, but very great. Great strain for depression if you don’t have anything to do that requires concentration. –Ghost Guy
