Located just a few doors down from it’s sister shop is Barney’s Uptown, the 3rd addition to the Barney’s family of coffee shops. What sets this new shop apart from the prior 2 is it’s upscale feeling and design. Oh and not to mention the fact that they don’t sell weed. (But you can smoke all you want) Reason being is coffee shops in Amsterdam are not allowed to sell both alcohol and marijuana. So what they have done is opened this new shop just feet from their old shop. The new shop sells the beer, wine, etc. and if you need some herb, you just walk down the street a couple doors to the old shop an viola!
Famous for their early morning breakfasts and late afternoon lunches, "Uptown" as it’s known to locals is a great place to stop and have a beer at the bar or sit down at a table for a comfortable meal.
Their goal when launching Barney’s Uptown was to create a stoner friendly venue with the glamour and sophistication of and upscale lounge. After having spent a good deal of time at Barney’s myself I can tell you they hit their mark. When you walk in the first thing you notice is the upscale vibe. With very comfortable couches, hardwood floors and a full bar stocked with back lit bottles on display, you can’t help but feel like a VIP.
In addition to an upscale bar/dining room Barney’s Uptown also has one of the healthiest menus in the city. Combine that with a full bar, their own house wine and a good selection of tap beer, Barney’s aims to provide a great experience for tourists and locals alike.
ABOVE – Sweet Tooth
ABOVE – Utopia Haze
I have to be honest, I was a little shocked the first time I walked into Barney’s. This place is nice! Not to say that the other coffee shops I went to were not nice, it’s just this place is a cut above. It’s big enough that when it’s packed, there is a great buzz in the air (no pun) but small enough that it has a very intimate, social vibe.
Barney’s weed entry for the 2008 Cannabis Cup was a great sativa called Utopia Haze. While at Barney’s, anyone could ask one of the 3 guys walking around acting as hosts for a vaporizer hit. They’d use the house Volcano and fill you up a bag full of smoke. It was great. I’d sit back, have a beer or 2 while rolling up some fatass joints of Sweet Tooth or Utopia Haze. As soon as I ran out I’d just walk next door and buy some more. Come back and do the same thing again.
One of my more memorable nights in Amsterdam was the night I had Barney’s all to myself. It was later in the week, jetlag had caught up with my wife and the band The Black Eyed Peas were playing live at a Cannabis Cup party. Around midnight I bundled up and walked down to Barney’s by myself. When I got there the place was completely empty. I knew I did not have long before more customers walked in so I had the staff load up 2 Volcano bags of Utopia Haze for me. I killed both of them and right away they were refilled. I must of ripped 8 or 9 bags full of Utopia Haze before other people came in. At one point, they were blowing full bags of smoke all over me as I hit my own bag. Definitely a night I’ll never forget. –Chubbs

I looked at there site where they had more pics of the place, and it really does look nice.
Seems like an amazing place to get a beer and chill.
Yeah, one of the best places to kick back in all of Amsterdam if you ask me.
How was the sweet tooth?.. looks like some candy funk to me
The Sweet Tooth was just about perfect.
I’m quite jealous sir, things jut became decriminalized here and it’s not that lax yet
I was just there, and had the Red Diesel, which was a great kick back and mellow stone. If you want something strong right now, check out the G-13 Haze; super clear and heady high, energetic as well. The music was a combination of Def Tones and rap while I was in there, but the person DJing switches up and each DJ has their own taste in music.
My top 4 recommendations I’d recommend, in no particular order, are:
Barney’s
Amnesia
Dampkring
Green House
@just there: I second your top 4 but I’d have to squeeze De Tweede Kamer in there somewhere. Place is top notch.
Hi! I took a quick trip to Amsterdam a couple weeks ago and went to Barney’s. I bough a gram of Dr. Grindspoon Full Sativa (17Eur) and vaporized half of it, then rolled a couple slim joints for later.
It was quite aan experience. I’m not used to big % sativas, and it was a very cerebral high, with short peaks of paranoia (probably a mix of being there for the first time, and also I come from a very complicated country…).
I loved it. Too bad they’re not selling the seeds yet!
good shop but very overpriced. come in for their g13 haze for sure though.
Great coffee shop! Sweet Tooth and Amnesia Haze highly recommended!!!
