Located 1/2 block north of Beverly on Western Ave. in Los Angeles is the dispensary Apothecary420. I first read about Apothecary420 online about 6 months ago. Everyone that had been there was saying how the quality of the marijuana is always top notch. Something else that a lot of people commented on was the price, saying that they overcharge. Both of those item peaked my interest so I decided to make the trek to L.A. and see what all the fuss was about myself.
My 1st trip to Apothecary420 had me searching for parking. Western Ave, like most streets in Los Angeles is very congested. I ended up having to call and ask where the best place to park is. Turns out you can use the KFC parking lot that is just up the street. I always go into KFC and at least buy a soda. That way I don’t have to stress my car getting towed. Even though they say it’s cool, why bother with the possible hassle.
When you walk up to the door you see the normal little buzzer button. I pressed it and the door unlocked right away. Closing the door behind me I am now in a very tiny "sub-lobby" that is about 4×4 feet with a camera and another door. Using the camera they get a look at you and then unlock the second door that opens up into the main lobby. The lobby is pretty big. There is enough seating for 10-15 people, although I have never seen another person besides myself waiting. It is air conditioned and there is a T.V. to watch while you wait.
Through a little glass window I passed my recommendation and my i.d. through to a really cool girl that has been working there every time I’ve visited Apothecary420. It took her about 5 minutes to verify me and I was let into the green room. The green room is really big compared to some other dispensaries that I have been to. There is a big cooler with a glass door that keeps all the edibles cool. They have a great selection to choose from. Very tasty.
As I had read the bud at Apothecary420 is top notch. Each of the 4 times I have been there they have had at least 15 kinds of weed and 5-10 kinds of concentrates to choose from. I have tried many of their offerings, most of which were pretty good. Here is my list- Lamb’s Bread, Sonoma Purple, Swiss Cheese, Matanuska Mist, Chemdog Hash, Jupiter OG Kush, Blueberry, Kimchi Hash, Kimchi, OG Master Kush, Platinum OG Kush, Earth OG Kush and in the next few days I will be posting reviews I did of their Alaskan Thunder Fuck and their Mars OG Kush.

The 1st few times I went to Apothecary420 I paid for my medicine by credit card, an option I really like and not too many dispensaries offer. On my 1st visit I was given a free gram, a nice glass pipe and some edibles as gifts. It was great. It kind of made me forget about the high prices I was paying. And by high prices, I am talking about $35/gram in some cases.
The next 2 visits were the same – high prices, good weed, paid by credit card. All is well.
Now this last time I went, things were a little shall we say, "different". Everything was exactly the same as it had been in the past only this time there were 2 guys working behind the bud counter that I had not seen before. The friendly girl with the cool short hair was there sitting behind a different desk, not handling any business.
I looked at some new herb, decided what I wanted and asked for the prices on 3 of their top shelf strains. Now this is where is gets weird, the guy helping me asked if I was paying cash or credit card. When I told him cash, he said they were each $25/gram. Now the menu right next to me clearly said they were $30-35/gram. I did not question the guy because honestly, I wanted to save the money. But the whole transaction definitely felt bit shady.
And as if that was not enough, the guy helping me and the other guy that was behind the weed counter started arguing with each other like a couple of little girls. Saying really rude things to each other to which they would both reply "not in front of customers." It was so odd and uncomfortable, to this day I am not sure if they were being serious or not. Either way it sucked. I just paid and split. –Chubbs

Haha, it seems like a great dispensary (Besides the prices maybe be troubling to some.
Your last visit seemed really awkward though.
Could they have charged you more in the past because you used your CC? Just a thought since you said it was $10 cheaper when you used cash.
I am not sure. I am guessing they charge more for C/C purchases to cover any processing fees. But $10-15/gram more seems a bit excessive.
I went by there for the first time today to pick up some sativas and they were really cool. (The guy behind the counter’s first suggestion was Lamb’s Bread).
For what ever it’s worth the pricing said $30/half gram for Chem Dawg hash but I paid $25. I can’t remember if that was before or after they asked if I was paying cash or not.
@necros: Their prices vary depending on your payment method.
I am guessing they do this in order to be able to pay their credit card processing fee for each transaction and still make the same profit.
I think your right Chubbs. On the receipt the hash was the last item and you can see where they wrote $30 then wrote $25 over it after they knew I was paying cash.
watup Mr. Chubbs! I’m gonna make my 1st visit to A420 and need your knowledge and wisdom on the strains you’ve reviewed already. Lets say all of the strains were the same price on the 8th (except Earth OG…$122? New pair of Jordans sound better) anyways of all the indicas, which strain would you go back for?
@Goofyx213: The Cheese is to die for.
